“Anyone who tries to make a distinction between education and entertainment doesn't know the first thing about either." |
"True creativity often starts |
Being that my chosen path in education has always been informed by my passion for dance entertainment, McLuhan's quote above, speaks of an amalgamated focus where entertainment and education connect. As an educator, it is my job to provide the stimulation for engagement that persuades peak performance. I have a responsibility to enthuse learners, keep students actively engaged, and help guide them toward higher levels of conscious experience. These are the concepts that motivate my passions for pedagogy.
A professor and scholar himself, McLuhan eloquently articulates my truth. I am most amused by education - delighted by growth, achievement, exploration, investigation and creativity. These self-improving indulgences are filled with the promise of expanding potential and connecting to humanity on a deeper level. The learning environments I have found to be most supportive are those that provide enthusiastic encouragement for the disciplined and diligent pursuit of personal areas of interest - the “what” and “how” of the individual. As an educator, this is of paramount importance to me. I look to identify an individual students' interests in learning as the way to best motivate them in their pursuits.
My own learning experiences tell me that the mentors who can facilitate self-directed advancement as the primary emphasis of study, are the instructors who can most positively effect student development. Teachers arguably have greater impact when they inspire inquiry within their students; involve them by enabling them to engage in what drives them most; entertain their curiosities in order to enlighten their intellect. Not coincidentally, the most influential professors seemingly prove to also be charismatic, personable and amusing. My primary approach when teaching is to implement ‘fun’ as a vehicle for creating growth and opportunity - where the students’ hearts lead the way for what their minds will be taught.

Medium Art ... Work that situates itself neither above nor beneath, but instead identifies with all that is in between.
One of a kind creations that connect art to entertainment, intelligence to amusement, and audiences to artistic entertainers.
"I am grateful to have been producing theatrical dance entertainment since 1993. The work has run the gamut from conscious concert dance to corporate commercial events and everything in the middle. As a dancing human, I take pride in my longevity, versatility and unyielding passion for 'passing the torch' to the next generation that is looking to make a living in the ever-expanding field of dance. As an inventor
of creative things, I value collaboration and intuition as the most important considerations when innovating enjoyment for a
wide variety of discerning audiences. As an educator, I encourage the diligent pursuit of what most serves the needs of the
individual student's interests and abilities. I am an artistic entertainer on a mission to contribute and communicate
performances created in the medium of dance-art production." ~JP
